Music & Mental Health

2020 brings heightened expectations for everything new! It’s not just a new year, but a whole new decade. Reaching Out Through Music is delighted to embrace this new era and is thrilled to look forward to so many exciting activities on our agenda in the coming months. The St. James Town Children’s Choir has grown again, with more than a half dozen new school aged children joining us in our winter term. We would love to welcome many more! Rehearsals, held Thursdays, 4-5 pm, are joyful, fun, and provide much academic benefit. While all that is good news, perhaps the most important aspect of ROTM and the music education programs it provides is the commitment to ongoing social, mental, and emotional well-being. Belonging to a choir, or any arts group is enormously beneficial for any age group, and sets up a lifetime of feeling valued as part of a supportive and encouraging community. This in turn promotes happiness, physical well-being, a desire to learn and a sense of place in the community. Children, youth and adults who are involved in any form of arts, social or physical activity retain a stronger, healthier sense of self, and are therefore a greater asset to themselves, their families, and their community. So, do something artistic, or physical, or engaging today! You won’t regret it.
