The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination event was observed on 21st of March 2019. As a community space for a very multicultural community, The Corner observed the day in a small but meaningful manner. The main purpose of this event was to stand in solidarity with and express our respect to those who have lost their lives or have had an arduous life as a result of racial and religious discrimination. We also demonstrated that the community can come together through love, respect, and open dialogue.
The event was well-attended with almost 60 participants dropping in throughout the day, on top of the Corner’s usual clients. Attendees participated in a constructive, informative and interactive session and later put in their thoughts, wishes and expectations on the wall of change. Participants enjoyed a warm cup of coffee, tea and cookies. The event was made possible with the creativity and hard work of volunteers from the Philippino seniors group as well as The Corner staff and volunteers.
