Community Hubs are too often the result of a top-down approach, where spaces, programs and services are determined by teams of experts and designers, with little input from the people whose needs they are meant to serve.
The Corner has always been driven by a grassroots model of community development, where residents drive the programs and services that best meet the unique challenges of St. James Town, Toronto’s most diverse but also socially and economically challenging neighbourhood.
This is why we are excited to announce The Corner 2.0, our new initiative for growth, partnership and innovation that will only further push our unique world-class model of grassroots community building.
To launch The Corner 2.0, we’ve put together two research reports, “Envisioning and Promoting The Corner 2.0” and “The Corner@240: An Improvisational and Collaborative Space of Sustainability.”
Together, these reports reflect the past, present and future of The Corner. They provide insights into how we work, where we need to improve and how we can push towards a bright, bold and empowering future for St. James Town.
